Do you love to read? Ok good, we can be friends!
Here are my top ten favorite books of all time. Let me tell you, it was reeeeally hard to narrow down the list! I would read all day if I didn't have four children I can't neglect, lol. I am a young adult fantasy author, but I read from a variety of genres, and that's reflected in my favorites.
Oceans of Sand will be published next June, but until then, your next great read might be on this list!
Here we go, in order of least to most favorite -
10) Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton
Why I love it: Have you seen Jurassic Park? The movie was based off of a book by this same author, and he's AMAZING! Suspenseful, sciencey mystery to keep you reading late into the night.
9) Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Why I love it: Super creative story and lots of fun 80's references! (P.S. If you've seen the movie, it was terrible. Don't judge the book based on the movie.)
8) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Why I love it: I started this book one night as a teenager and stayed up until 4 AM to finish it. Definitely a page-turner! If you haven't read this yet, where have you been???
7) The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
Why I love it: Ok. This is a suuuuuper long fantasy series (14 books, each 800 to 1000+ pages!) but if you're in to epic fantasy, it's absolutely worth the read.
6) Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
Why I love it: I love it when a book can make me cry and really feel something. This book definitely fulfilled that. Just an all around a brilliant fantasy novel!
5) Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Why I love it: This is another science thriller, and OH MY GOSH IT'S AMAZING! Have you seen or read The Martian by Andy Weir? (Another great book, by the way!) Same author, and he really delivers in this one. Love love loved it.
4) 1000 Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Why I love it: Did I mention I love books that make me cry? This one fits that category. The character's growth and journey are soooo powerful. It's a historical fiction, which is not usually my genre of choice, but this is absolutely one of my favorite books ever.
3) 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
Why I love it: I read this book aloud to my husband, and I had to stop and take a breath because I was crying, haha! Just a beautiful, powerful story about keeping promises. Oh, and there's an alien invasion and apocalypse, too.
2) Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness
Why I love it: Sooooo freaking brilliant. All the women in this fantasy world are dead. One day, the main character meets a girl. Powerful themes, relatable characters who have to make tough choices.
1) Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Why I love it: Here it is! My favorite book ever. It's a series of three books, and they are each just incredible. It's everything I love about epic fantasy. Brandon Sanderson is a master at creating unique, cool worlds and interesting magic systems with definite rules. I LOVE IT!
Bonus: Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
Why I love it: I have to mention this one. My list just wouldn't be complete without it. (Can you tell I love Brandon Sanderson?) This epic fantasy series is like the Wheel of Time - huge in scope. It's also brilliant and just amazing. Wheel of Time beats it for now on my list solely because of the nostalgia, but only barely.
You'll notice that Harry Potter is missing. What is this??? The travesty! A YA Fantasy author who doesn't like Harry Potter! I do, I really do. I love it, actually. Harry Potter has so many fun elements. It doesn't make it to my top ten list, but it's definitely close :)
I had so much fun making this list! Have you read any of these? What are your favorite books? Comment below and give me my next reading recommendation! I share on instagram what I've been reading, so follow along for more :)
Have you read any of the books by Amy Harmon? The first book of hers I read is Running Barefoot. Loved it so I've read a ton of her stuff :) I'm excited to read Oceans of Sand! I love most books with Ocean or Sand in the title! Have you read Heart of the Ocean by Heather B Moore? another fave :)
